The Chopta–Tungnath trek offers a mesmerizing journey through the stunning landscapes of the Garhwal region in Uttarakhand, India. This trek beautifully combines the charm of Chopta, the spiritual significance of Tungnath and Chandrashila, and the tranquility of Deoriatal Lake into one captivating adventure.
Starting from the picturesque hill station of Chopta, often referred to as the “Mini Switzerland of India,” trekkers ascend through dense forests adorned with rhododendron and oak trees. Along the way, they are treated to breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and lush green meadows.
The highlight of the trek is the Chandrashila Summit, standing tall at an altitude of approximately 3,680 meters (12,073 feet). From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan range, including prominent peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba.
Day 1 - Rishikesh To Baniya Kund (Chopta)

- Start your journey early from Rishikesh. Drive along the Ganga and Alaknanda rivers, passing through Rudraprayag and Ukhimath before reaching Chopta, a scenic alpine meadow surrounded by forests.

Day 2 - Baniyakund (Chopta) To Tungnath & Chandrashila Summit | Return To Baniyakund (Chopta)
- Trek Distance: ~11 km round trip | Duration: 6–7 hours
- Altitude: 8,700 ft → 13,100 ft (Chandrashila)
- Stay: Guesthouse / Campsite at Chopta
- Meals: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner
- Begin early to trek to Tungnath, the world’s highest Shiva temple. Continue a steep climb to Chandrashila Peak, offering panoramic views of Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, Trishul, and Kedar Dome. Return the same way

Day 3 - Baniyakund (Chopta) To Rishikesh
- Drive Distance: ~200 km | Duration: 8–9 hours

- After breakfast, drive back to Rishikesh via Ukhimath and Rudraprayag. Enjoy scenic views and cultural towns along the route.
- Return through Garhwal hills
- Trip ends with peaceful Himalayan memories
- Mobile Network: Available during most of the route (Jio/BSNL)
- Note: Expected arrival in Rishikesh is around 7:00–8:00 PM. Plan your further travel accordingly.
- In case of any unforeseen changes to the itinerary—such as due to landslides, road blockages, medical emergencies, or weather-related disruptions—additional charges may apply for alternate arrangements like transport, stay, or route adjustments.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
- Age: 7 Years.
- First timer can apply; previous trekking experience is more appreciated.
- The trekker must be fit and have sufficient stamina to cover 4 km of distance in 35 minutes without a stress.
- Maximum age depends on your fitness level
- The climber should be able to carry a 10-12 kg backpack.
